MSM Powder Review (Bauer Nutrition): Supplement that Saves you from Pain!?
Hey what’s up, peeps!? Welcome to my MSM powder review. MSM is definitely one of the more unique products I’ve had the opportunity to review. I feel as though a lot of people, especially those who are a bit younger, like myself, have not really heard of it. Compared to weight loss supplements or bodybuilding supplements, it’s not a supplement that’s talked about too often. Therefore, I’m super excited to share with you what I’ve learned! Let’s dive in!
What is MSM Powder and what does it do?
MSM powder is merely a powdered version of MSM. MSM stands for methylsulfonylmethane, which sure as heck, is a mouth full! I suppose that’s why they decided to shorten it to MSM…haha! It’s an organic sulfur compound and is found naturally in primitive plants, fruits, vegetables, and in some various food and beverages.
Believe it or not, sulfur is actually contained in every cell in our body. It plays an important role in our everyday bodily functions. Its presence in our body actually helps us build various proteins. There are also several other benefits; the main usage being for joint support.
Benefits:
- Relieving Joint Pain: If you’re suffering from joint pain of any kind, whether it’s in your hips, fingers, toes, shoulder blades, or knees, it might be worth supplementing MSM. They say that combining MSM along with glucosamine and chondroitin, can make a very powerful team when it comes to fighting diseases like osteoarthritis.
- Boost Immunity: This is a pretty interesting benefit and one that, quite frankly, really surprised me. Although I’m sure it’s not as powerful as vitamin C or other supplements, they say that MSM powder can really help improve your immunity. If you have no clue what immunity means, it’s basically your ability to fight off disease and not get sick! Doesn’t hurt to have a stronger immune system! ๐
- Anti-Inflammation: This is somewhat related to the release of joint pain. They say that sometimes the pain in our joints is due to the inflammation of the tissues around the surrounding joint. Some studies have shown that MSM powder can reduce inflammation which would then alleviate some joint pain.
- Makes you Better-Looking: Say Whhhaaaaat!? Yup. Believe it or not, some studies have indicated that MSM powder can actually improve the overall quality of your hair, skin, and nails. This could potentially give you a healthier and more youthful appearance. Who would have ever guessed? ๐
Overall, all the benefits seem really nice. I mean, who wouldn’t want to experience less joint pain, less inflammation, a higher immunity system, and better-looking skin? Some scientists, however, say that aside from MSM’s ability to help with joints, there isn’t a strong enough array of studies to fully support the other benefits that the supplement claims to offer.
This is one thing to keep in mind if you choose to supplement MSM powder. As I state with almost all my supplement reviews, don’t have unrealistic expectations. There’s nothing wrong with believing in a product, purchasing it, and using it to see how well it supports your health goals. The problem arises when we suddenly believe that a product is a complete miracle pill and will excel in every benefit that the manufacturers claim it provides. In other words, if you’re an 80 year-old grandma and you take MSM powder thinking that it will magically make you look like Kim Kardashian, you’re stupid!

As you can see, I used Bauer Nutrition’s brand of MSM powder for 15 days. I mixed it with beverages and would drink it with my dinner. In retrospect, I probably should have tried consuming it with my lunches as well, just so that I could mix things up a bit and try to observe any possible differences. My reason for not eating it with my lunch was because I didn’t want a bunch of white powder spilling all over the break room table at work!
On the label, it’s recommended to use only half a teaspoon for the first 3 days, and then upgrading to a full teaspoon each day afterward. Why is that? To be honest, I really have no clue! You’re going to have to call Bauer Nutrition and ask them about that one. My guess is that they want you to slowly transition into a full teaspoon per day, so that your body is able to adjust to the product in case a full teaspoon is too concentrated.
On Day 4, I started using a full teaspoon instead of the half teaspoon. As you can see in my above documentation, on Day 4 I mixed the full teaspoon of MSM with a coconut-flavored Bai antioxidant drink. The MSM definitely tasted a lot stronger when using a full teaspoon as opposed to half! And, let me tell you something, the taste of MSM powder is not one of its most flattering attributes.
MSM powder has a very strong bitter taste to it. I was expecting and hoping for it to taste like salt, but unfortunately it tasted 5x worse! I would say that it tastes very similar to an orange peel! Throughout my 15-day experience, I also tried mixing MSM powder with water, diet pepsi, a carbonated peach drink, and sunny D light. In my opinion, diet pepsi did the best job when it came to hiding that nasty bitter taste of MSM. If you purchase a bottle of MSM powder, I’d recommend mixing it with a strong flavored drink of some sort. For the sake of your taste buds, I don’t recommend taking it with plain water!
Besides the taste, my overall experience with the Bauer Nutrition brand of MSM powder was a good one. I didn’t have any major issues at all when taking the supplement. My stomach didn’t get upset. I didn’t feel bloated. I didn’t feel dehydrated. I didn’t get sick. I didn’t vomit all over the break room table at work. I didn’t get intense diarrhea. I didn’t…..well, I think you get the point, right?
On the flip side, you also have to keep in mind that I don’t suffer from any major joint issues. When I used the product, I didn’t have osteoarthritis, or shoulder discomfort, or messed-up ankles. This made it difficult to really prove the efficacy of the product. If you do, however, suffer from any of those listed ailments, you might be able to observe some of the benefits a lot better than I did.
Although I didn’t have any of the stereotypical joint pain, I was recovering from some minor back pain during this period. Sadly, during my 15-day experience the MSM powder didn’t seem to have any positive effect on my back pain. Back pain is a pretty complicated issue and there are so many variables that could be contributing to one’s back pain, so I wasn’t necessarily expect MSM to do much for me.
Should you Buy MSM Powder (Bauer Nutrition)?
The Bauer Nutrition brand of MSM Powder comes in a pretty cool, blue transparent bottle. It has a white label and white cap, and bears the typical red/white Bauer Nutrition logo on the front. One bottle of MSM powder contains 300 grams, which is approximately 71 teaspoons. Since it’s recommended to take 1 teaspoon per day, one bottle could last you up to 71 days!
One bottle of MSM powder costs $54.95, which is actually a pretty good deal considering one bottle could last you 71 days. In addition (and this is one of the reasons why I’m actually a big fan of Bauer Nutrition), you’ll save much more money if you buy 2 or 3+ bottles. If you purchase 2 bottles, you’ll get a third bottle for free which saves you $54.95. And then if you purchase 3 bottles, you’ll actually get 3 bottles for free, which saves you $164.85.
There is also free worldwide shipping offered. Various websites and supplement companies charge shipping, but what I really like about Bauer Nutrition is that they offer shipping all over the world and don’t charge you a dime for it! Also, the free shipping is offered on orders of any amount. If you wanted to purchase 10 order of MSM powder, you’d get free shipping! If you only wanted 3 bottles, you’ll still get free shipping! If you wanted only 1 bottle, you’ll still get free shipping!
Another cool thing about Bauer Nutrition is that it also sells MSM in tablet form. If you don’t like the powdered form and don’t want to go through the hassle of mixing it with your beverages, or even worse, taking it straight, you have the amazing pleasure of ordering a bottle of MSM pills.
Of course, let’s be realistic, MSM powder isn’t really designed for everyone. I’d really only recommend MSM powder if you fit in the below categories:
- People that suffer from osteoarthritis or any other type of joint pain: This definitely is an obvious one. You probably wouldn’t be reading this right now if you, or someone you knew, didn’t suffer from joint pain of some sort. Whether the pain is in your hips, fingers, knees, or ankles, supplementing MSM might relieve some of the stress.
- People that are already taking glucosamine and/or chondroitin: Glucosamine and chondroitin are pretty popular supplements when it comes to relieving joint pain. If you’re already taking those supplements and looking for alternative products or additional products to take take things to the next level, it might be worth investing in a bottle of MSM powder.
- People who are a bit older: I’m a relatively young guy (27 years-old as I’m writing this), so it makes sense that MSM may not have have had a profound effect on me after 15 days of usage. If you’re a bit older, your body might be more susceptible to wear and tear. Also, as a side benefit, MSM might give you more youthful looking hair, skin, and nails!
- People who lift a lot of weights: If you’re hitting the gym 5. 6, 7 days per week, your joints are bound to get sore eventually. I don’t care how old you are or how experienced you are, your body can only take so much. I’ve seen some of the healthiest athletes, even members of my own family, fall victim to the wear and tear of frequent lifting.
- People who don’t mind things that taste……bitter: Yeah, I just had to repeat that again! If you can’t stand the taste of bitter things you might be better off getting MSM in tablet form or trying out alternative products. Or, you could do what I did and mix it with some orange juice…..or diet pepsi. ๐
That’s a wrap folks! Hope you enjoyed my review! As always…….
Supp. It. Up.
