Introduction
Yo, what’s up guys?
This is David Hoang coming at you from supplementsuperhero.com, and today I’m going to be talking about the Wolverine diet and workout and how the heck Hugh Jackman got so freakin’ jacked for Wolverine.
So, this is actually pretty exciting. This is actually a really exciting topic, and if you don’t know, Hugh Jackman’s a very, very famous actor.
He played Wolverine, the superhero, the Marvel superhero.
He was a part of the X-Men, and has made movie, after movie, after movie, after movie in the X-Men series and most recently, Logan, which is a really, really good movie, by the way.
If you haven’t seen Logan, I would recommend checking it out. I’m a huge superhero movie fan. In 2017, tons of superhero movies came out, but I would have to say that Logan was the best superhero movie so far of 2017.
I don’t think there’s any more movies coming out, actually. It’s November, it’s November 27th, 2017, as I’m filming this, and I don’t think there’s any more superhero movies coming out.
Background Story
Okay. But anyways, Hugh Jackman got tons of attention because he just got super, super ripped and super jacked over the years for his role as Wolverine.
And, what’s crazy is that for the first X-Men movie back in like 2000, the year 2000, 17 years ago when he was like 31 years-old, I believe, his body was not that impressive.
It was okay, but they say that, at least from what I’ve heard, they say that when he actually did his shirtless scenes that basically the director wasn’t that impressed.
And he basically, from what I heard, Hugh Jackman wasn’t that experienced when it came to dieting and lifting and so on and so forth, and like, just started dieting a little bit before the actual movie started.
So, I heard that they actually had to film, they actually had to give Hugh Jackman some extra time to diet, so on, so forth, and get his body looking better, so that they could actually film the shirtless scenes.
And they did that later on. They had to give him extra time to do that, essentially.
But what’s crazy is, the point I’m trying to make is, what’s crazy is as he got older, into his forties, he actually ended up looking better and better and better.
And just got super, super cut for his role in The Wolverine and his role in Logan, which came out recently, and it’s crazy stuff.
Two Key Elements
So, basically, from what I’ve learned, it’s two things. One, he worked really, really hard, hit the gym really hard, worked very closely with a personal trainer, and also took his diet very, very seriously.
In fact, he said the diet was really the hard part, and basically he talks about how most of it, most of his body, most of his physique, really comes from dieting.
I think he says like 80% is diet, 20% is the actual working out part.
He said if you don’t eat right, it doesn’t matter how hard you train or how dedicated you are to the gym, how much you lift. If your diet’s all messed up, you’re not going to get super, super cut, like Wolverine.
That’s not to say that working out isn’t good for you. But again, we’re talking about aesthetics here and looking good.
The Wolverine Diet
So, in terms of the actual Wolverine diet, Hugh Jackman says he basically called up Dwayne Johnson, AKA The Rock, and got some advice and that The Rock basically told him to eat a lot, ingest a lot of calories, and Hugh Jackman basically said he was eating about 4,000 calories a day, primarily protein.
He would have proteins six times a day. He was mainly eating like chicken, some fish occasionally, maybe an occasional steak, and a lot of it was a lot of bland chicken breasts, just bland food and nothing sweet.
Nothing extremely salty. Clean vegetables, maybe an occasional brown rice here and there. But other than that, that was pretty much it.
Very clean eating in mass amounts. No sugar, no alcohol. And a lot of times he had to really force himself to eat.
He basically said he almost treated the eating like working out. He would have to train himself to just eat one more bite, one more bite, one more bite, one more bite, in order to force all that food down his throat.
And, what’s really impressive, too, is, or I should say, what’s really interesting, too, the one thing that he worked with his personal trainer on was carb cycling, basically.
And, it wasn’t like a high carb intake from what I gathered, but basically during his rest days he would do a low carb intake.
Then on days where he had weight training, those are the days where he would actually ingest the carbs, like brown rice, so on and so forth. There’s some other things that he ate too, but it was all like really, really clean stuff.
And by the way, just to let you know, Hugh Jackman’s about six foot two, and I think at the time of filming he was like 190 pounds, 200 pounds, give or take.
So he actually isn’t really the most, I shouldn’t say, the most jacked guy or the biggest guy, but he’s just super, super ripped. Like really, really ripped.
And obviously, if you want that really, really ripped look, you’ve got to follow the Wolverine diet.
The Wolverine Workout
Okay, so in terms of training, though, he worked very, very closely with a personal trainer.
He would hit the gym six times a week, a lot of times twice a day even. So, he worked really, really hard. A lot of his training consisted of training to failure. So that’s how a lot of his workouts would go.
Basically, he would just train and train and train and stimulate the muscle and just work until failure with a lot of his workouts.
And they did sort of a cycle where basically his first three weeks he would do heavy lifting, and then on the fourth week they would do a higher amount of reps, but lower weights.
And, by doing that, that stimulates further muscle growth and further strength gains. And Hugh Jackman talks about his favorite lift being the deadlift. I think that’s a lot of people’s favorite lift, but yeah, the deadlift is really, really good.
By the way, it’s a really, really good compound lift, because it works a bunch of big major muscle groups, so, keep that in mind. Deadlift is good.
And in terms of supplementation, and this one, I’m not a hundred percent sure how true it is, but basically he utilized … There wasn’t like tons of supplementation involved, but basically he utilized a pre-workout called Animal Pump. You can get that at bodybuilding.com, I believe.
And basically, he would utilize creatine, and basically whenever he was in a bulking stage and he was bulking up. He would utilize the creatine when he was in a cutting phase. He would gradually use less and less creatine and then eventually reduced the amount of creatine.
Conclusion
But that’s basically it. Animal Pump, creatine, nice, clean diet, ingesting on average 4,000 calories a day, and then some intense training six days a week, many times twice a day.
