Garcinia Cambogia (Bauer Nutrition) Review: World’s Most Notorious Weight Loss Supplement?
Welcome to my garcinia cambogia (bauer nutrition) review! Ahh, this is a review that I certainly have been looking forward to for some time! Garcinia cambogia has grown significantly in popularity over the years! There are literally hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people searching for this product every single month! That’s why I just had to review the product!
How does Garcinia Cambogia work and what are the benefits?
Garcinia cambogia is actually the scientific name for a fruit that’s grown in Southeast Asia. Oh, yeah, that’s right! This fruit comes from Southeast Asia, where my ancestors are from! (tears up with a swelling of pride) Garcinia cambogia also goes by various other names such as Garcinia gummi-gutta, brindleberry, Malabar tamarind, and pot tamarind. The fruit is yellow green in color and comes in the shape of a pumkin. The fruit is used as flavoring in Asian cuisine, particularly curry.
The key ingredient behind Garcinia cambogia is the Hydroxycitric Acid or HCA for short. HCA is the secret that gives this supplement that powerful kick to help you lose weight! According to Bauer Nutrition, there are 4 main ways that HCA helps you lose weight.
- Blocks the Production of Fat: Yup, I think this one is pretty important, haha! HCA blocks citrate lyase. Citrate lyase is an enzyme in animals that helps to convert carbs into fats. Yup, that’s right! Citrate lyase is that demonic enzyme in our body that absolutely destroys our love for eating carbs! Since HCA blocks that conversion of carbs to fat, it allows us to just burn our carbs more effectively! Woohooo!
- Suppresses Your Appetite: Well, I think this one is pretty self-explanatory. If you’re not as hungry, you’re going to eat less. If you’re eating less, you’re less likely to put on weight / unnecessary fat. Ghrelin and Neuropeptide Y are the hormones in our body that make us hungry. Garcinia cambogia prevents those hormones from spiking.
- Gives you more Energy: HCA helps your body break down carbs into glycogen. Since your body uses glycogen for energy, it’s likely that you’ll have more energy when taking Garcinia cambogia.
- Makes you Happy: This one is rather interesting and surprised me. Apparently HCA helps boost serotonin levels, which really helps to elevate your mood. If you’re in a more optimistic state of mind, you’ll be less likely to emotionally eat. And…..maybe even give you more inspiration to hit that unused treadmill. 🙂
Ingredient Quantities:
Garcinia Cambogia (60% HCA) – 1000mg per serving (2 capsules is 1 serving) : The fact that this product has 60% HCA is really good because they say that 50% HCA per serving is recommended to get good results.
Raspberry Ketone (99% purity) – 200mg per serving: This is a compound found in raspberries that is said to have a lot of antioxidants. It helps the body burn fat by breaking down the fat within cells. Some say that it can help increase levels of the hormone adiponectin which helps you break down fat and regulate your metabolism.
How did Garcinia Cambogia become so popular? Is it over-hyped?
As you can see in the above video, Dr. Oz, who hosts a very popular television show, covered the benefits of Garcinia cambogia pretty thoroughly in one of his episodes. This is an example of media perpetuating the potential benefits of weight loss supplements. Although Garcinia cambogia was known for a good length of time before Dr. Oz’s introduction of the product, I believe that his promotion of the product certainly perpetuated it.
Dr. Oz is perhaps just one example of many outlets for which media was able to effectively market Garcinia cambogia. I’m sure if we were to dig even deeper we could find other examples of celebrities or brands which somehow market Garcinia cambogia or at the very least, perpetuate awareness. Does this mean that it’s a bad product? Definitely not. Does this mean that Garcinia cambogia is a perfect product for you and will guarantee weight loss? Definitely not.
So……is this popular weight loss supplement overhyped? Maybe a bit. A lot of popular products on the market are definitely a bit over-hyped. This shouldn’t necessarily discourage you from using product. It just means that you shouldn’t believe that it’s some miracle pill because Dr. Oz said so. 😉
Are there any NEGATIVE aspects of Garcinia Cambogia?
Just like a lot of supplements on the market, Garcinia cambogia certainly has its fair share of criticism. One of the biggest pieces of criticism toward this popular product is the lack of research. There has not been an adequate amount of research to fully justify the power of the product. Sure, there’s some research that displays weight loss for those that supplement Garcinia cambogia (indicated by the doctor featured in the Dr. Oz video above), but there aren’t enough studies to show true, significant scientific evidence. And, honestly, it’s very hard for us to get very solid scientific evidence from controlled human studies. It just is….unforunately. (sighs)
Some research also indicates that taking Garcinia cambogia supplements can negatively effect you liver. It’s unclear whether Garcinia cambogia is to blame or the other ingredients packed in Garcinia supplements. Regardless, that alone is enough to scare some people away. Some other side effects might also include gastrointestinal discomfort, headaches, and nausea. But, seriously, let’s be honest…..a lot of us engage in activity like drinking, smoking, and eating fast food, which leads to those health discomforts anyway! (wink, wink)
Another common criticism that some people have (and this is a big one for supplement companies in general) is that their Garcinia supplements don’t contain HCA or an effective dosage of HCA. Unfortunately this too, can be hard to avoid, and it’s always going to be a part of the game, even if you’re buying from the most trustworthy company. My recommendation is to buy a Garcinia cambogia supplement that contains 60% HCA since the minimum recommendation is at least 50%.
And, of course, there’s always the anti-supplement people who will highly recommend saving your money and not wasting it on any supplements. In their opinion, it’s better to just invest in eating healthy and exercising properly. Although, I personally disagree with this perspective, there is some truth to it. You certainly don’t NEED Garcinia cambogia, or any weight loss supplement for that matter, to lose weight. In my opinion, however, supplements can certainly help accelerate your health ambitions.

As you can see from the above snapshot, I took the Bauer Nutrition brand of Garcinia cambogia for 27 days. I started taking it at the very end of December 2016, and if you know anything about Wisconsin, that’s a very cold time of year for us! The cold time of year plus the food from all the holiday festivities definitely makes for a weight-gaining period of time, so it was a perfect opportunity for me to try out the product.
The product comes in a pretty plain, small white bottle with a green label. It contains 60 white-colored capsules. It’s suggested to take 1 capsule two times per day 30 minutes before your meals. Ideally you should drink a large glass of water whenever you supplement Garcinia camgbogia.
One of the first things I noticed about Garcinia cambogia is that it has a pretty distinct, sour smell to it. Given that this was my first time trying out a Garcinia product, I was quite surprised by the smell. A lot of the weight loss supplements I’ve tried in the past usually have a very neutral smell, a ginseng-like smell, or a fish-like smell in the case of CLA. Garcinia cambogia certainly doesn’t smell horrible, but it’s definitely an interesting, sour-like smell.
On most days, I took the recommended dosage of Garcinia cambogia (twice daily), and on some days I took it with just lunch or just dinner. But….there was one VERY interesting thing I noticed! After about 1 week of taking the product, I noticed that my abs looked more defined. Yeah, I know what you’re thinking…. “one week of taking Garcinia cambogia and you already have better abs? No way!” I swear, though, I’m being completely honest and objective in saying that my abs looked slightly more tone after using the product consistently for about 1 week. Keep in mind that during this period I also was not exercising and my diet remained roughly the same. Is it possible that my “better-looking abs” could have just been a result of the placebo effect? Yes, it’s certainly possible. I’m only human and despite how many different products I’ve tried and spending thousands of dollars on supplements throughout the past several years, my perception can never be 100% perfect. But, in my opinion I feel as though my stomach looked a bit more shredded after using the product for 1 week.
Any other significant benefits I noticed? Not a whole lot, really. The nice thing about Garcinia cambogia is that there aren’t a ton of side effects. When I was was taking it, I didn’t get sick, feel bloated, or become dehydrated, which are common complaints of most weight loss supplements. On the flip side, I felt as though my overall appetite did not change, even though Garcinia cambogia claims that it helps to suppress your appetite. My hunger levels throughout the day were, for the most part, the same.
Again, these were just my own personal experiences, and your experience might be completely different. You also have to keep in mind that I have a relatively faster metabolism than a lot of people, I’m already fairly lean, and was 27 years old when I tried the product (and still 27 as I’m writing this). There fore, you have to consider your own personal circumstances if you choose to invest in the product. If you’re older, carry more body fat, and have a slower metabolism, there’s a chance Garcinia cambogia might work more effectively for you.
Should you BUY Garcinia Cambogia (Bauer Nutrition)? Don’t be STUPID!
Garcinia cambogia has certainly grown exponentially in popularity over the years. It has a ton of lovers. It also has a ton of haters. If you have not purchased a bottle of Garcinia cambogia, and you’re contemplating on whether or not you should, my advice to you is this: DON’T BE STUPID!!
Now, let me explain what I mean by that. I do not hate the product. Nor do I love the product. Since Garcinia cambogia has grown so popular over the years, I feel as though the opinions of the product are on the side of either two extremes: they really love it or they really hate it. If you have either of this opinions without ever having tried the product for an extended period of time, then you are, quite frankly, overly critical and stupid!
My best advice, again, is to not be stupid (I love using that word on occasion)! Don’t believe all the hype about the product. The product is not a MIRACLE PILL! If you’re 200 pounds overweight and have a level 2 “Dad Bod,” you should not expect to have a ripped 6-pack after using the product for 3 days. It’s not going to happen! At the same time, don’t immediately dismiss the product as a scam without even trying it. If you’re an anti-supplement freak, you should open up your mind a bit and be receptive to the idea that not all weight loss supplements are scams! In my opinion, if there’s so much hype around Garcinia cambogia, there has to be at least some truth to its weight-slashing capabilities.
If you are ready to invest in a bottle of Garcinia cambogia, there are certainly some big perks to ordering through the Bauer Nutrition brand. A 1-month supply of Garcinia cambogia comes out to $44.95. What’s even better, is that the more bottles you purchase, the more money you’ll save. If you purchase 2 bottles, you’ll get a third bottle for free, which saves you $44.95. Even better (and this is my favorite part of the Bauer Nutrition brand), if you purchase 3 bottles, you’ll actually get 3 bottles for FREE, thus saving you $134.85! In case you’re wondering, those are USD, so if you’re from Canada, or the UK, or Australia, or outer space……you’ll have to check out the website for yourself. 🙂
On top of that, Bauer Nutrition also enables you to mix and match products, while still taking advantage of those huge buy-in-bulk discounts. This allows to invest in other supplements in addition to Garcinia cambogia, while still saving money. This a fool-proof way for you to try the product out and still get a good return, even if you end up hating the product. Bauer Nutrition also offers free shipping across the world on all orders, and ensures customer satisfaction with a 60-day money back guarantee.
You really don’t have anything to lose if you choose to order through Bauer Nutrition. If you’re still on the fence as to whether or not you should invest in the product, I’d suggest doing some self-analysis in regards to your health goals. How badly do you want to lose weight? What do you want your ideal body image to look like? Are you frustrated with your weight and how you look? Are you satisfied with your current routine? Are you happy with your current range of supplements? These are all questions that you really need to ask yourself before deciding if Garcinia cambogia is good for you.
I’d recommend BUYING Garcinia Cambogia if:
- You really hate how you look and need to make SOME change
- You want to lose some weight and nothing has seemed to work yet
- You have never tried a weight loss supplement before and would like start (Garcinia cambogia is a pretty newbie-friendly weight loss supplement to start with)
- Maybe you’ve tried a variety of supplements and just want to try something new for the sake of experience, like I did
- If you understand that the product is NOT a miracle pill and is merely meant to supplement your lifestyle
I’d recommend NOT BUYING Garcinia Cambogia if:
- You’re already losing weight with your current lifestyle and supplements
- You’re 100% happy with your body weight and fat percentage
- You believe that your entire life and body image will change just by using this product
- You’re pregnant, nursing, under the age of 18, or have some sort of special medical condition
- You hate the smell of sour things 🙂
I’m a stronger believer in living a lifestyle that supports your health ambitions. If you decide to invest in a Garcinia cambogia product, please always remember that a good diet and exercise routine is suggested to reach optimal health goals. Supplementation can certainly help, but it’s not a one-stop shop for all your needs.
Hope you enjoyed this review! Until next time!
Supp. It. Up.
