Introduction
Yo, what’s up guys? This is David Hoang coming at you from supplementsuperhero.com and today I’m going to be doing a review of DASH diet.
I’m going to be talking about some of the disadvantages of the diet and maybe talk about some of the benefits of the diet for weight loss and hypertension. So hope you enjoy it.
What’s the DASH Diet?
Now I actually didn’t know about the DASH diet for the longest time.
I recently learned about it actually and it was originally developed by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute to really help prevent high blood pressure.
What it stands for is dietary approaches to stop hypertension.
So again, DASH stands for dietary approaches to stop hypertension and the whole purpose of it was to develop a diet that universally helps to lower blood pressure or hypertension.
Hypertension is essentially high blood pressure and the main focus of the diet is really to focus on eating more fruits, eating more vegetables, low fat or non-fat dairy products and whole grains and to really focus on eating those types of foods, and to avoid eating salt.
So, essentially, eat less sodium or to….really eliminate sodium completely potentially, because sodium- salt, it essentially increases blood sugar…or blood pressure I should say.
Basically, there are different variations to the DASH diet. It has been optimized over times. There’s various books written on it.
Some variations might include eating less carbs…less refined foods. Because of the really health-oriented approach and holistic approach to this diet, it’s literally considered one of the best overall diets.
Some sources say it’s literally the best diet. US News….it’s literally won best overall diet year after year, after year, after year.
Obviously, it’s a diet that’s continuously optimized as well because it’s a very, I would say, generalized diet.
DASH Diet Benefits
I would say some of the main benefits of the DASH diet include number one, first off, the fact that it helps to lower your blood pressure.
If you’re the type of person who suffers from high blood pressure, or high blood pressure runs in your family, or you feel as though you eventually…you’re going to suffer from high blood pressure, this is a great diet to really implement in your life and to really focus on.
Another big benefit is that it lowers your blood sugar.
So, if you’re pre-diabetic or diabetic or diabetes runs in your family, like my family….diabetes runs on my mom’s side of the family…this is a great diet to abide by.
Obviously a big portion of my channel is talking about weight loss, and of course, one of the biggest benefits of the DASH diet is that it’s great for a long-term weight loss.
If you’re the type of person who suffers from yo-yo dieting, or you feel as though you get on a diet…you get off a bit, you exercise and then you stop exercising…and you can’t seem to really get your weight loss under control…this is really a great long term solution to weight loss.
And, it’s just a diet that, over time, is going to help you shed those pounds and get you in shape and make you look good.
I would say another big advantage to the DASH diet is that the strong research behind it, the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, is essentially government run.
They’ve got a fantastic team behind them. There’s, I’m sure, I mean obviously I don’t know all the details of all the researchers behind it and every single little historical study behind it, but obviously if it’s backed up by the government, it’s got to be good.
It’s got to be legit. It’s not just some random personal trainer or some person in their basement cooking up this idea. The DASH diet has got some solid, solid foundation behind it.
Another benefit is that it reduces cholesterol. So, that one I would say is pretty…given.
Last but not least, it’s great for everyone. It’s literally not just great for certain individuals. It’s not just great females. It’s not just great for males. It’s not just great for little kids. It’s great for literally everyone.
So, you don’t have to worry.
Even if you have certain medical conditions I would say the DASH diet is really, really safe for just about everyone except for maybe those people who are just under really, really strict care or have a really, really severe illness and just can’t deviate from a certain specific diet or certain specific medication.
But this is honestly great for just about every single person out there.
Disadvantages of the DASH Diet
Now, there are some disadvantages to the DASH diet.
There aren’t a ton out there, but there are a couple, and I would say one is it may or may not be the best weight loss solution on the market.
Now, there is a book called the DASH diet, a weight loss solution which optimizes the DASH diet specifically for people who want to lose weight.
But, I would say, in general, it’s not the best if you’re looking to cut weight and if you’re looking to cut weight fast and you want super, super, super fast results.
The DASH diet, alone, can certainly help with that and can certainly potentially get you those results…get you those fast results.
But, the DASH diet in itself alone is not necessarily going to help produce really fast results like some of the other results, some of the other diets out there, like the 5:2 diet, like intermittent fasting, maybe the keto diet.
This just isn’t designed for that and it’s, like I said before, it’s not the best for short-term weight loss. So if you want to lose weight really, really fast, it’s not going to help with that. This is more of a long term solution.
I would say the other disadvantage to it is that it’s not…it’s somewhat boring and seemingly common sense.
Like when I was doing the research on it, I mean, it just makes common sense that if you eat a lot of vegetables, eat a lot of fruits, whole grains, not a whole lot of empty calories, not a whole lot salt…it makes sense that you’re going to lose weight eventually.
It’s just essentially eating healthy…is what it is. So, if you’re looking for something that’s a little more flashy, you’re looking for a diet that’s a bit different, a little out there, something really new…that’s really spicy…the DASH diet isn’t really that.
The DASH diet is essentially eating really healthy and eating really clean.
